Penny Cavender MSLIMHP, CPC, NBCC, RPT, CCTP, CCATP, CCFP

I am a licensed mental health professional who specializes in working with children ages 12 and under. I have spent many years working with children in crisis who have experienced trauma, including foster children and foster parents. I use cognitive therapy as well as play therapy skills.
I am coordinator of a 13 week Child-Parent Interaction training to help parents improve their relationships with their children and help parents of children to have more success with bonding and behaviors. I have been a facilitator for Sons and Daughters United and the Parents United Support group through Lutheran Family Services as well as their R Safe group for sexual abuse victims.
I insist on family therapy along side the individual work. I believe that one cannot help someone, especially a child, if the individual's family is not included in the therapeutic process.
I have extensive experience with adults as well, including family and couples therapy. I also have worked as a geriatric counselor and enjoy working with this population immensely.
